Students Work Ethic Adds Up to Math Recognition
Mary Davis, Director of Implementation for Think Through Math, recognized Kevin Zavala Cruz, a fifth grader at Thomas Haley Elementary School, for his achievements in the Think Through Math online program. As of the award’s presentation, he had passed 270 Think Through Math lessons. He was nominated for the award by his teacher, Christine Scovill who wrote, “Kevin gets up early each morning about 5:30 a.m. of his own choosing … so that he can put in time working on the Think Through Math program to help prepare himself for the academic day ahead in mathematics. He does this consistently day in and day out, week in and week out and worked so hard at the program that he managed to work his way into the rankings of the top 20 students in the state of Texas and even held the No. 1 spot for a few weeks. He has become the “go-to guy” for students who have questions about the program.” Scovill added that Kevin had helped lead the class to two rewards through the program and has even moved up to begin sixth-grade level work now that he has mastered the fifth grade level work. Kevin received a T-shirt, certificate and a $50 Amazon Gift Card.
