NISD Board of Trustees Approves Amended 2015-2016 School Calendar
On Monday, April 27, the Northwest ISD Board of Trustees approved amendments to the 2015-2016 academic calendar. The following modifications have been made as a recommendation from the NISD District Education Improvement Council, (DEIC) made up of parents, teachers and community members:
• Spring Break has been moved to March 14-18
• An additional bad weather make-up day has been added for a total of three make-up days:
o February 15
o March 25
o April 22 (newly added)
The modification to the Spring Break dates allows NISD to have a similar Spring Break to surrounding school districts and universities, making it easier for students enrolled in dual credit courses, as well as providing a similar schedule for staff and students who might have families in other local school districts. Additionally, adding a third bad weather day provides for another make-up day built into the calendar should inclement weather strike in early or late winter.
Every two years or following regular legislative sessions, the NISD DEIC develops and submits calendar option(s) for two consecutive upcoming school year(s) with additional input from staff, parents and community to the NISD Board of Trustees. This fall, the DEIC will begin working on the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 academic calendars. By adopting two consecutive school calendars, the district hopes to aid parents, teachers and administrators as they plan student and district activities.
