Patty Bustamante Named Director of World Languages
Irving ISD Superintendent of Schools Jose L. Parra, Ed.D. announced Patty Bustamante as the Director of World Languages for the district. Bustamante has served as principal of F. M. Gilbert Elementary since 2012.
“The administration is very pleased to have Mrs. Patty Bustamante serve the students and staff as the Director of World Languages,” says Adam Grinage, Ed.D., Irving ISD associate superintendent for academic services. “Mrs. Bustamante’s experience as a campus principal, as well as her educational background in bilingual education, gives her a unique perspective on improving the academic performance for the district’s English language learners.”
As Director of World Languages, Bustamante will oversee the district’s World Language departments as well as the ESL support specialists.
This is an opportunity Bustamante welcomes. “I am very excited about the opportunity to continue serving our students and learning community in this new position,” she says. “It is imperative that we strengthen our efforts to improve the performance of all of our students, particularly the performance of English language learners.”
With 17 years of experience in Irving ISD, Bustamante has worked as a principal, assistant principal and bilingual teacher for third, fourth and fifth grades.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Dallas and two master’s degrees – one in bilingual education from Southern Methodist University and another in educational administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Bustamante will begin transitioning to her new role in June. Jorge Acosta, current assistant principal at Irving ISD’s Davis Elementary School, was selected to be principal at Gilbert Elementary.
