Richland Middle School is having a Teen Read Week Oct. 18–24. On Friday, Oct. 24, each student will be able to visit the library and choose a book to keep during our Book Giveaway Day. All books for the giveaway have been donated, thanks to the Children’s Book Project by the Birdville Association of Retired School Personnel (BARSP).

Binion Elementary’s fall student pictures are Monday, Oct. 19.

Kindergarten students at Foster Village Elementary are taking a field trip to Green Meadow Farm Monday, Oct. 19.

Smithfield Elementary’s book fair is Oct. 19–23.

Watauga Elementary will have authors visiting with students Oct. 21–22. For information, call 817-547-2700.

Eighth-grade students at Richland Middle School are taking a field trip to the Dallas Holocaust Museum Center for Education and Tolerance Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Kindergarten students at Binion Elementary are taking a field trip Thursday, Oct. 22 to the TCC Northeast campus.


Richland High School’s choir fundraiser is from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 at Chick-fil-A. Chick-fil-A is at 5131 Rufe Snow Drive in North Richland Hills. Mention the Richland High choir when ordering and 10 percent of the proceeds will be given to the choir program.


Spicer Elementary’s ASPIRE program will celebrate Lights on After School with pumpkin carving Thursday, Oct. 22.

Stowe Elementary will celebrate Children’s Rights Day from 6:15–7 p.m. in the cafeteria on Thursday, Oct. 22.  The event honors diversity within the school and the community.

West Birdville Elementary’s PTA Family Bingo Night is Thursday, Oct. 22.

Author Tammi Sauer will visit with students at Spicer Elementary Friday, Oct. 23 in the library.

Foster Village Elementary’s Howdy Dance is from 3:30–5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Dress in western attire during school is allowed.

Watauga Elementary is inviting grandparents to have lunch with their second-grade students Friday, Oct. 23.

Walker Creek Elementary’s Kindergarten Monster Parade is Friday, Oct. 23.

The Academy at C.F. Thomas’ annual Boogie Night is from 6–7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Tickets for the activities are $1 each, 12 tickets for $10, or 25 tickets for $20. For information, call 817-547-3000.

Francisco Elementary’s literacy program for all families, led by Sara Tovar, begins at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23 in the cafeteria.

Richland Elementary’s PTA Carnival is from 5–8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23.

Cheney Elementary’s fall festival is from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

Porter Elementary’s fall carnival/silent auction is from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

Richland High School’s cheerleaders and mascot are holding a Cheer Clinic from 8:30–11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 in the main gym at Richland High School. The Clinic is open to ages four and up. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the clinic running from 9–11 a.m. and the showcase from 11–11:30 a.m. The cost is $30, which includes a clinic T-shirt.  Participants will learn the foundational skills of cheerleading in a fun and instructional environment. They will also have the opportunity to wear their T-shirts and perform on the field during pre-game festivities Nov. 6 at the Richland vs. Colleyville football game. Shannon High School’s student advisory board will be hosting a Walk for the Cure from 8–10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at Birdville Stadium. The money raised will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. For information, call 817-547-5400.

The Richland Middle School National Junior Honor Society’s Fix-It Blitz begins at 9 a.m. Oct. 24–25. They will be planting and building up the NRH Community Gardens on Davis Boulevard. Adult volunteers must be approved by BISD. Submit your volunteer application at
