Northwest ISD bands each receive top score at regional marching contest
All three of Northwest ISD’s high school marching bands – Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest – received the top rating possible at the University Interscholastic League’s Region 2 contest on Saturday, Oct. 20, with Eaton and Northwest advancing to the area meet for a chance to perform at state.
Each band received Division 1 ratings from the regional competition judges, the top score possible and classified as a “superior” rating. Byron Nelson and Eaton competed in the UIL’s 6A classification, while Northwest competed in the 5A classification. The competition was hosted at Northwest ISD Stadium and included high schools from across the region.
Because the UIL alternates when schools are eligible for area and state marching band competitions through an every-other-year format, Byron Nelson and Eaton will advance to the area competition as the 2A, 4A and 6A classifications will perform in those contests this year. Byron Nelson and Eaton’s marching bands will perform at the 6A Area C contest at Mesquite ISD Memorial Stadium on Monday, Oct. 29. A schedule for the contest will be posted on this website in the coming days.
Northwest ISD’s marching bands are led by the instruction of Jed Weeks, director of bands at Byron Nelson; Paul Elder, director of bands at Eaton; and Jim Boulet, director of bands at Northwest.
