NISD: Byron Nelson’s Paige Flickinger named Gatorade’s Texas Volleyball Player of the Year
Gatorade has named Byron Nelson High School student-athlete Paige Flickinger as its 2018-19 Texas Volleyball Player of the Year, placing her among the top players in the nation.
Paige, an outside hitter, helped lead the Bobcats to a 42-2 record and top-10 ranking in multiple national polls. During the season, the Bobcats were ranked No. 1 in the state’s largest classification and included in rankings of the top teams in the nation. The junior will continue to compete for the Bobcats next year for her senior season alongside a strong group of returning student-athletes.
The award marks the second time a major organization has named Paige as its state player of the year; the Texas Girls Coaches Association named Paige its 5A-6A Volleyball Player of the Year shortly after the season concluded.
Following high school, Paige plans to continue her academic and athletic career at LSU, where she has verbally committed to play both indoor and beach volleyball.
With her selection as a state winner, Paige is now under consideration for the Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year award. Both the state and national award take into account athletic achievement as well as academic excellence and exemplary character.
