Irving ISD Parents Honored at Annual Awards Ceremony
Four parents of Irving ISD students, as well as the district’s parent involvement department, were honored at the annual Parents Step Ahead (PSA) Parent of the Year Awards, held December 7. Congratulations to Lupita Gordillo and Juanita Gonzalez of Keyes Elementary School; Georgina Martinez of Davis Elementary School; and Maria Raquel Soto of Crockett Middle School. Every year, PSA, a non-profit devoted to promoting the importance of parental involvement, honors parents and guardians who have taken a proactive approach to their child’s educational and professional development. Parents are eligible for the recognition based on participation in a PSA Parent Program, nomination from their child’s school and the submission of two essays (one written by the parent about the importance of parental involvement and the second by their child on why their mom or dad should receive the honor of “Parent of the Year”). Winners received an award, a laptop and desktop computer among other prizes. In addition, the district’s parent involvement department was recognized for partnering with PSA to offer a variety of programs and activities to promote parent and family engagement in Irving ISD schools.
