CISD: Hoops Update – District Schedule Heats Up as Playoffs Approach
Both the Lady Dragon and Dragon basketball programs have been working hard through their district schedules to earn their spot in the postseason tournament. Both teams played at home last night again a tough Byron Nelson squad. Both teams had impressive performances to earn much-needed wins on their home court.
Lady Dragon Basketball
The Lady Dragon Basketball Program continued on their impressive play in District 5-6A last night with a hard-fought victory against Byron Nelson. The games remained close throughout until sophomore Kalila Fambro hit two late free throws to seal the 49-46 victory for the Lady Dragons.
In the previous game, Jillian Sowell joined the 500 point club. She is currently the fourth highest scorer in the DFW area.
With a 6-4 record in district, the Lady Dragons find themselves in the middle of a battle for the playoffs. The four most important games of the season remain over the next two weeks beginning with Fossil Ridge on Friday, January 25, at Fossil Ridge HS.
The Dragons opened the second half of district play with an intense matchup with Byron Nelson. Four quarters of regulation basketball was not enough to decide this game. The Dragons took Byron Nelson to overtime and came away with the 46-43 victory in front of the energetic Carroll Crazies and Carroll Pep Band!
The Dragons were led in scoring by Brandon Haddock with 12 points followed closely by Blake Smith and Dylan Hatton both with 8 points.
Through the first half of district play, the Dragons sit in 4th place overall in district 5-6A with six games left on the schedule before playoffs. The Dragons head out on the road to Fossil Ridge this upcoming Friday, January 25. Tip-off is at 7:30 pm.
