Irving ISD to Host Inaugural Engage U Parent Conference
Through its commitment to partner with families to ensure students are equipped for both academic and personal success, Irving ISD will host an opportunity for parents to learn from experts and discover tools to support their child through school and beyond.
On Saturday, April 13, Irving ISD parents and families are invited to the district’s inaugural Engage U: Parent & Family Engagement Conference. From relevant sessions on hot topics to an inspiring keynote speaker, Engage U will help all Irving ISD parents/guardians remain number one in student success.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at Singley Academy, located at 4601 N. MacArthur in Irving. It will include engaging and informational presentations in both English and Spanish as well as a free breakfast and a community vendor fair. Also, free childcare is available to children between the ages of 4 and 6.
The conference will feature keynote speaker R. Mateo Magdaleno, a highly sought motivational speaker who will empower parents and talk about defying the urge to quit. Additional sessions include two powerful presentations from the Irving Police Department on current drug trends and the signs of dating violence. Other engaging workshops on the schedule are:
- How to spot and prevent bullying
- Keeping students safe while online and how to balance technology and learning
- Parents’ role in school attendance and the consequences of truancy
- Getting a head start on the path to college
- How parents can maximize their role as their child’s first teacher
Attendees are asked to park at nearby MacArthur High School and take the free shuttle service to and from Singley during the event.
