Fort Worth: Stay busy this spring at your nearest library, community center and the Fort Worth Nature Center
It may still feel like winter outside, but spring is right around the corner — and with it, new programs and activities from the Fort Worth Public Library, the Fort Worth Nature Center and local community centers.
Fort Worth Public Library
The Fort Worth Public Library has quite a few programs ready for spring, including Tail Waggin’ Tutors at the Central Branch, Girls Who Code at the eSkills Library and Job Center, and MakerSpace programs and STEAM story times at different locations throughout Fort Worth. (These classes all accept online registrations.)
Additionally, students can kick off their Spring Break with the Dallas Mavericks Reading Challenge at 4 p.m. March 11 at the Southwest Regional Branch. Members of the Dallas Mavericks organization — including the Mavs Maniacs, Mavs Dancers and more — will attend a special story time, giveaways and other activities.
Also, the Digital Bookmobile will stop by East Regional Library and the Summerglen Branch during Spring Break as part of its national tour. This free interactive experience allows residents to try eBooks and audiobooks, among other digital resources available to them with their library cards. The Digital Bookmobile will visit East Regional Library from noon to 6 p.m. March 14, and will visit the Summerglen Branch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 15.
Fort Worth Nature Center
Fort Worth’s 3,000-acre nature and wildlife preserve is celebrating the return of warmer weather with their popular bison feeding hayride, as well as assorted hikes, canoeing and kayaking excursions, and opportunities for kids to get up close and personal with bees and bird nests.
Additionally, the Fort Worth Nature Center will offer a variety of activities during Spring Break, from March 11-15, including dip netting in the Trinity River, Canoe Fest, assorted hikes and Preschool Discovery Club.
Contact the Nature Center, or view their page in the online Recreation Catalog for more information.
Residents who would like to get involved in something new this spring — whether a fitness boot camp or an art class — can check out the online Spring Recreation Catalog or browse centers’ spring class offerings.
Many community centers will also be offering Spring Break Camps from March 11-15 and School Break Camps from March 25-April 19. Students ages 5-13 can spend their time outside of the classroom participating in a variety of activities, including field trips, sports, crafts and much more. Contact your local community center for times and prices; discounts are available at all locations.
