Westlake Unveils State’s Most Iconic Fire Station

Westlake Unveils State’s Most Iconic Fire Station

Since breaking ground back in November of 2017, Westlake’s new Fire-EMS Station on the corner of Davis Boulevard and Dove Road has been a topic of conversation, not only around Westlake, but for neighboring communities as well. The level of anticipation has been growing since the first shovel hit the dirt.

This iconic facility is like no other in the entire state. In fact, firefighters from across the region have already visited the station, marveling at its stature. The one word that continues to pop up is, “iconic.”  Westlake’s main firehouse reflects the high-quality architectural standards the Townhas set in place for its commercial and residential structures.

This 18,000 square foot facility is indeed unique – from its architectural design, to the layout of the buildings across the corner and the use of the land’s topography.

Now, after months of waiting, it’s finally time to open its doors. Firefighters have officially moved in are ready to welcome the public. So, we invite you to join us for this momentous occasion! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 23rd when the Town of Westlake and the Fire-EMS Department will host the grand opening of the new facility.

Local dignitaries, residents, Town staff, and area fire departments will be in attendance. The ceremony will kick off at 9am with a welcome message from Mayor Laura Wheat and others. Chief Richard Whitten will speak about the history and tradition of opening a new fire station.

The traditional aspect of the event will be extremely prevalent throughout. From the uncoupling of the fire hose as a unique ribbon cutting, to the washing and drying of the engine, to the pushing of the truck into the bay, to the playing of bag pipes, it will certainly be a day to remember for our community. Following the ceremony, lunch will be served to all in attendance. After you’re finished eating, you can take a tour of the facilities. Firefighters will be on hand to explain what each room is used for and will display how their emergency equipment works.

“The new fire station sits at a gateway for Westlake symbolically telling people – we’ve got you covered, enjoy your stay.  It will represent a high quality of service and public safety in Westlake”, says Westlake Fire Chief Richard Whitten.

Westlake residents and distinguished guests will receive a special gift as well. Each family will get a firefighter collector coin, another tradition synonymous with the opening of a new station. We hope you join us for what is sure to be a memorable day in Westlake’s history.
