Upcoming Saginaw City Charter Special Election – May 4, 2019
On February 5, 2019 the Saginaw City Council approved Ordinance No. 2019-02, Calling a Special Election to be held on May 4, 2019 for the purposes of submitting to the voters multiple propositions to amend the Saginaw Home Rule Charter. The City’s Charter has not been changed since it was adopted in 1988. Any change to the Charter requires voter approval.
In April 2018, the City Council appointed a citizen’s Charter Review Commission to review the City Charter and make recommendations for any changes to the City Council. The Commission held multiple meetings and completed their review. Their recommendations were presented at the City Council Meeting on December 4, 2018 and discussed in detail at the January 2, 2019 City Council Meeting. Ordinance No. 2019-02 calls the Special Election on May 4, 2019 for voters to consider the proposed amendments.
