KISD: KHS Softball Faces Katy In State Tournament Friday
The four-time State Champion Keller High softball team is headed back to the UIL Class 6A State Tournament for the third time in four years, and will face Katy High in the State Semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday, May 31.
The trip to Austin marks Keller High’s ninth visit to the State Tournament. KHS won State Titles in 2003, 2005, 2016, and 2017.
Katy finished the season with only two losses as it won District 19-6A and navigated through Region 3 without suffering a loss in the postseason.
KHS swept Eaton High in the Region 1-6A Finals to reach State, also completing a perfect run through Region 1. After opening the playoffs with a 5-2 win over Coppell in a winner-take-all Bi-District Round matchup, the District 5-6A Champion Indians went on to sweep best-of-three series over South Grand Prairie in the Area Round, Southlake Carroll in the Regional Quarterfinal, and Wollforth Frenship in the Regional Final, before facing District 5-6A Runner-Up Eaton in the Regional Finals.
The Indians and Tigers had two common opponents on the season including fellow State Semifinalist Klein Collins. The Collins Tigers gave Katy one of its two losses, winning 12-2 on February 16. Collins also defeated Keller 11-5 on March 1. Collins will play Comal Canyon in the first State Semifinal at 3 p.m., with Keller and Katy to follow. Katy also faced Southlake Carroll this season, defeating the Dragons 11-1. Keller defeated Carroll twice in regular season District 5-6A play and twice in the Regional Quarterfinals.
