KISD: VRMS Student Recognized For Leadership And Service
Seventy-two outstanding young student leaders from across the state, including Vista Ridge Middle School’s Vibhas Chinta, successfully completed membership in Education in Action’s 2018-19 Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council.
Members participated in a weeklong Lone Star Leadership Academy summer camp. As graduates of this program, they were invited to join Education in Action’s alumni program, the Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council, to receive leadership training during the school year. In addition to completing leadership skill-building lessons, each student exercised their leadership skills by identifying a need in his or her community and creating and leading at least two others in a service project of his or her choosing.
Chinta and four of his friends held a donation drive and collected 100 toys for Cook Children’s Hospital. Cook Children’s was very thankful to receive so many gifts for their patients, and with the help of his teacher Jason Cornelius, Chinta and his team were successful in making many kids at Cook Children’s smile.
“A smiling face and a helping hand outweighs the riches of the land,” Chinta said.
Each student in the 2018-19 Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council received a certificate of merit for their dedication to developing their leadership skills and their service to their community. This year’s members represented 40 school districts and five private schools. Education in Action offers the Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council program each school year to further its mission – to empower young people to be informed and active leaders in their communities.
