FRHS RECOGNIZED AS CONTINUING AVID NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION SCHOOL
On Wednesday, December 4, Fossil Ridge High School was officially recognized as a Continuing AVID National Demonstration School at a special assembly for AVID students, teachers, campus and District administrators, and other special guests.
In March of 2016, the AVID Center recognized Fossil Ridge High School as an AVID National Demonstration School for the first time. The campus went through an extensive validation process that included instruction, systems, leadership, and culture. They received the maximum three-year allotment, validating FRHS through the fall of 2019.
AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a kindergarten-through-postsecondary system that changes underperforming students into confident, college-going scholars and graduates. As part of the AVID Demonstration Sites Network, sites are expected to develop a model program with schoolwide participation. With AVID’s proven methodologies used throughout subject-area classes, performance levels improve for all students, but especially for those students who are the least likely to attend four-year colleges. As a National Demonstration School, Fossil Ridge has hosted campus personnel from around the world that are preparing to implement the AVID system at their campus to observe a highly-evolved AVID system.
