The City of Colleyville is asking voters to vote for or against the City issuing up to $20 million in general obligation bonds to expand the current Recreation Center, located at 5008 Roberts Road.

The May 2024 election included the following advisory referendum question:

Should the City of Colleyville place a proposition on a future election ballot asking the City’s voters to authorize the issuance of ad valorem tax bonds for expansion of the Colleyville Recreation Center, which may include a fitness center, locker room, indoor track, and multi-use field?

Voters approved this measure 74% in favor and 26% against. After the voters approved this measure, the City hired an architect to study the site, provide concepts of a potential expansion, and estimate the cost of an expansion.

In response to this effort, the City now poses a question regarding the tax increase to fund the proposed improvements. The proposition will be presented on the ballot as follows:

“THE ISSUANCE OF $20,000,000 IN GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS FOR PARKS AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND RELATED IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDING EXPANSION OF THE COLLEYVILLE RECREATION CENTER AND THE IMPOSITION OF A TAX SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL OF AND INTEREST ON THE BONDS.”
