Starting Friday, May 23, traffic on Glenview Drive will switch to one-lane, one-way, westbound only from Boulevard 26 to Flory Street. Westbound motorists will use the newly paved side of the roadway and the contractor will shift work to the other side of the roadway for the final phase of construction. Eastbound motorists will be detoured through Flory Street to Boulevard 26.

The final phase of construction will include removing the remaining asphalt pavement, constructing storm drains, stabilizing the subgrade and paving with reinforced concrete. The estimated completion, per the contractor, is the end of August. During this phase of construction, residents who live south of Glenview off of Scruggs Drive, Parchman Street and Daley Avenue will not have access to Glenview and need to enter their neighborhood from Boulevard 26 or Vance Road.

WORK ZONE SAFETY REMINDERS

With construction on several city streets and the Loop 820 project underway for the foreseeable future, it’s important to keep work zone safety in mind. Work zones present a different and sometimes challenging environment for drivers to navigate. Motorists may encounter uneven pavement, narrow lanes, concrete barriers, slow-moving heavy equipment, and vehicles that make sudden stops. TxDOT’s “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” campaign offers five tips for safely driving through work zones:

  • Slow down. Follow the posted work zone speed limit and proactively adjust your driving to match road conditions.
  • Pay attention. Avoid distractions, keep your mind on the road and put your phone away.
  • Don’t tailgate. Give yourself room to stop in a hurry, should you need to. Rear-end collisions are the most common kind of work zone crashes.
  • Watch out for road crews. Roadside workers want to get home safely too. Always follow instructions and be mindful of construction area road signs.
  • Allow extra time. Road construction can slow things down. Count on it and plan for it.
