Keller Center for Advanced Learning (KCAL) teacher Shawn Schmuck has been named one of Fort Worth’s 2025 Unsung Heroes, an annual recognition presented by Mayor Mattie Parker during her State of the City Address.
The Unsung Hero Award honors individuals who selflessly serve their communities without seeking recognition—people who make a meaningful difference simply because it’s the right thing to do. This year, Mayor Parker recognized three outstanding Fort Worth educators for their commitment to shaping the future of local students.
Parker made a surprise visit to Keller ISD’s KCAL campus to present Schmuck with the award, acknowledging his innovative work in engineering education and career preparation. Through the Engineering Internship Program, Electric Vehicle Racing Team, and UAV/Drone Program, Schmuck provides hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom instruction with real-world applications. His programs have helped students explore emerging technologies, problem-solving, and collaboration while preparing them for success in engineering, technology, and STEM-related careers.
“I am committed to ensuring students across every zip code have access to a high-quality education,” said Mayor Parker. “Educators across Fort Worth—especially this year’s Unsung Heroes—help make that possible.”
Colleagues and students describe Schmuck as a teacher who goes above and beyond to inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence. His work exemplifies the transformative impact of education and how innovative teaching can spark lifelong learning.
Schmuck’s recognition highlights not only his dedication but also the Keller ISD community’s focus on fostering opportunity and excellence for all students.
