The City of North Richland Hills (NRH) has been recognized for its commitment to open government and financial accountability, earning two Transparency Stars from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. The awards honor the City’s excellence in providing clear, accessible information about municipal finances and debt obligations.

The recognition ensures that NRH residents can easily explore how local tax dollars are collected, spent, and planned through publicly available budgets, audits, and financial reports on the City’s website. These efforts strengthen trust between the City and its residents by making financial operations transparent and easy to understand.

At this week’s City Council meeting, Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock presented the awards to Mayor Jack McCarty and City Manager Paulette Hartman. Mayor McCarty expressed pride in the City’s ongoing dedication to transparency, thanking staff and the City Council for their consistent focus on accountability and good governance.

“This recognition highlights the hard work of our staff and our shared commitment to ensuring residents have confidence in how their city operates,” Mayor McCarty said. “And we’re not stopping here — more stars are on the way!”

Through the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars Program, local governments can earn up to six stars across different categories of financial openness. With two already secured, NRH continues to set the standard for transparency and responsible stewardship in North Texas.
