Hurst’s annual Fire Department Open House will feature demonstrations, children’s activities, firefighter equipment and community vendors on Sept. 26.

The City of Hurst will host its annual Fire Department Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Fire Station 1, 2100 Precinct Line Rd., Hurst.

The family-friendly event will include demonstrations showing what a firefighter’s job looks like, activities for children and displays of firefighter equipment. Local businesses and medical facilities will also be on site to share information and distribute giveaways.

Participating vendors include State Farm – Shalyn S. Clark, Chick-fil-A at Highway 26, Raising Cane’s, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Vampire Penguin and the Carter BloodCare Mobile Donation Bus.

Carter BloodCare is encouraging blood donations during the event because of a critical need. Appointments are available, and walk-ins will be welcomed on the day of the open house. People who donate will receive a magnetic phone charger while supplies or the offer lasts.

Hurst Animal Services and Adoption Center will also be part of the event. Donations help the shelter provide medical care, food and a safe, comfortable environment for animals awaiting adoption. Requested items include pet beds, collars, toys, and dry and wet food. A full donation list is available at hursttx.gov/animalservices.

North East Emergency Distribution, or N.E.E.D. Food Pantry, will collect canned goods and other non-perishable food items. The faith-based nonprofit also will accept monetary donations to support its mission of providing short-term emergency assistance.

Residents are invited to attend the Fire Department Open House and learn more about firefighting, local services and ways to support community organizations.
