To help ensure a smooth testing experience for our applicants, TDLR has put together a series of informational documents relating to Barber & Cosmetology (BAC) examinations. These new resources are designed to answer many of the most common questions applicants have throughout the examination process and to help them successfully prepare for testing. The new resources can be found on the updated Barbering and Cosmetology Exam Information page.

The new Exam Resources section includes easy-to-follow guidance on:

  • Exam Eligibility – Understanding written and practical exam eligibility requirements.
  • Tuition Payment – How tuition status may affect exam eligibility.
  • Contact Information & Name Changes – Keeping applicant information current and ensuring names match identification.
  • Lawful Presence Requirements – Required documentation and how it impacts eligibility.
  • Candidate Information Bulletins (CIBs) – What they contain and why they are important.
  • Scheduling Exams with PSI – Creating a PSI account, scheduling exams, and retake instructions.
  • Exam Day: What Can I Expect? – Check-in procedures, security policies, and what to bring on exam day.
  • Score Reports – How to access exam scores and understand performance reports.

These resources are intended to help applicants, test-takers, schools, and instructors better understand the examination process, reduce common issues that may delay testing, and improve overall readiness for licensure examinations.

We encourage you to share these resources with your students and staff and refer to them whenever questions arise regarding the examination process. We have also included a copy of the complete document in this email for easy access.

Thank you for helping us support a successful testing experience for all Barber & Cosmetology applicants.
