If you know someone who is between 14-20 years old and interested in becoming a police officer, they may want to consider joining the Bedford Police Explorer program!

This program provides a first-hand look at a career in law enforcement from working police officers through discussions, training, and more.

The Explorers meet Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. and study topics related to real police work such as DWI investigations, domestic disturbances, crime scene investigations, hostage negotiations, building searches, etc. They also physically train as a group, learn defensive tactics, and participate in local Explorer competitions against other Explorer groups.

Membership opens once a year and interested individuals must complete an interest card and then attend the Explorer Open House on Thursday, September 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Bedford Police Department, 2121 L. Don Dodson Dr. with their parent/guardian. After attending the Open House, potential new members must complete an application, as well as pass a background check and interview process.

Learn more about the program and complete the online interest card.
