A cost-sharing, phased-in plan is being worked out and will be brought to Council for review at a future meeting. Lone Star Brahmas DayMayor Jack McCarty proclaimed June 10, 2024 as Lone Star Brahmas Day in NRH and presented the Brahmas with a congratulatory proclamation for winning the North American Hockey League Robertson Cup National Championship. Funding AgreementCouncil approved an agreement with the Regional Transportation Council to use Transportation Development Credits to fund the local match for the Smithfield Middle School Safe Routes to School Project. This project will improve sidewalks and crosswalks within a half-mile of Smithfield Middle School, with construction expected to take place next year. The city received a federal grant to cover 80% of construction costs. The 20% local match for the grant will be covered by the transportation credits, instead of coming from the city’s budget. The savings to the city is about $132,000. The transportation credits were made available to the city by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, through an application process that takes into consideration the city’s policies on a number of transportation-related issues. CIP Committee AppointmentsThe City Council appointed three of its members to serve on the Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Committee, along with one alternate member. The CIP Committee is a subcommittee of the Council that reviews and makes recommendations on the annual Preventive Street Maintenance Program. Council members appointed to the CIP Committee are Kelvin Deupree, Suzy Compton and Russ Mitchell. Mayor McCarty will serve as the alternate. They will each serve for a two-year term.
