The City of Hurst Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is now accepting applications for its Fall CERT Basic Training class, taking place November 7–9, 2025. Registration is open through October 31 at 5 p.m., but with only 20 available spots, space will fill quickly.

The CERT program prepares community members to assist in emergencies and disasters. Participants will learn essential skills such as:

  • Disaster preparedness
  • Small fire suppression
  • Basic medical response
  • Light search and rescue

In addition to training, CERT members provide critical support to first responders, assist victims, and help organize spontaneous volunteers during emergency situations. They also participate in non-emergency community projects that improve safety and resilience.

The course is taught by a team of trained first responders and certified volunteers, all of whom have completed specialized instruction through state emergency management offices or FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute (EMI).

This program is sponsored by the Hurst Fire Department, FEMA, and managed by Hurst CERT. A minimum of 12 participants is required, and full participation across all sessions is needed to graduate from the course.
