On February 7, 2025, students from Keller Independent School District (Keller ISD) staged a walkout to protest a proposed plan to divide the district into two separate entities. The proposal suggests splitting the district along U.S. Highway 377, which has raised concerns among students and community members about potential socioeconomic and racial disparities.

At 9:40 a.m., students from multiple high schools, including Keller High School, Timber Creek High School, Central High School, and Fossil Ridge High School, left their classrooms to participate in the demonstration. They gathered at various locations, such as the Keller Public Library and a nearby Chicken Express parking lot, to voice their opposition.

The protesters chanted slogans like “One district, one voice, give us the choice!” and carried signs reading “Let Us Vote” and “We Will Not Be Divided.” Organizers emphasized the importance of unity and expressed concerns that the proposed split would exacerbate existing inequalities within the district.

In response to the walkout, Keller ISD officials reminded families that leaving class without permission is considered skipping and would be addressed according to the district’s Student Code of Conduct. Despite potential disciplinary actions, students proceeded with the protest, highlighting their commitment to maintaining a unified district.

The proposed division has been a topic of debate within the community, with concerns that it could lead to disparities in resources and educational opportunities. The school board has yet to make a final decision on the matter.
