We already knew our East Bates Street project was something to be proud of, but now it’s officially an award winner.

The Old Town overhaul of East Bates into a festival street, which opened to the public in October, was recently recognized by the Texas chapter of the American Public Works Association as Project of the Year in the Historical Restoration/Preservation category for small cities. Public Works Director Alonzo Liñán and Capital Projects Manager Rick Hardcopf accepted the award on the city’s behalf during the association’s annual conference last week.

Award considerations included infrastructure improvements, the quality and quantity of pedestrian amenities, plus the new median and pedestrian crossing on Hwy. 377, construction management, environmental impacts, communication and community relations.
