Beloved Texas singer-songwriter Robert Earl Keen is rallying support for his hometown after devastating floods swept through the Texas Hill Country on July 4, leaving destruction, heartbreak, and several people still missing.
Kerrville, the place Keen calls home, was hit particularly hard by the unprecedented rainfall and flash flooding. One of the most heartbreaking elements of the disaster is the impact on Camp Mystic, a cherished local summer camp where Keen’s daughters once attended. Several campers remain unaccounted for, heightening the urgency and sorrow felt across the region.
Keen shared a heartfelt message on social media expressing his grief and support:
“My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected,” Keen wrote. “Special thanks for the amazing support of the first responders from the community and all over Texas, rushing to aid those in need.”
In response to the tragedy, Keen is taking action. He has announced plans to organize a benefit to raise funds for the flood recovery efforts, with more details to be shared soon. In the meantime, he is urging fans and fellow Texans to donate to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, which is coordinating relief efforts and providing aid directly to affected families.
Additionally, Keen has pledged 100% of the merchandise sales from his current tour to go directly to the Community Foundation in support of flood relief efforts.
“I will be donating 100% of the merchandise sales from our current tour to the Community Foundation,” Keen wrote. “Please stay tuned as I work in partnership with the community to continue to support those in need.”
As the Hill Country begins to recover, Keen’s voice and leadership serve as a beacon of hope for the community. With neighbors coming together, first responders on the ground, and supporters from across the state contributing, Kerrville is far from alone in this difficult time.
