High school students in Bedford, Euless, and Hurst have an exciting opportunity to engage in civic leadership and compete for scholarships through the 2026 Youth in Government program, now accepting applications from eligible students. Hosted by the Hurst Euless Bedford (HEB) Chamber of Commerce and offered in partnership with the three participating cities, the program is designed to immerse students in local government while encouraging community involvement and career exploration.
Beginning in January and running through April, the program will meet twice per month on Monday evenings. Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes and introduces students to a wide range of topics, including the importance of voting and elections, how police and fire departments serve residents, community service projects, and potential local government career pathways. Participants will also have opportunities to engage directly with city leaders and learn how municipal decisions are made.
One of the program’s most appealing elements is the availability of scholarships awarded at the conclusion of the course. These scholarships recognize dedication, participation, and demonstrated interest in public service, making the program particularly valuable for college-bound students.
To qualify, applicants must be juniors or seniors in high school by January 1 and must reside in Bedford, Euless, or Hurst. Participation is open to students regardless of school district enrollment, meaning applicants do not have to attend HEB ISD to be considered.
Parents and students interested in applying are encouraged to complete the online application form before the December 2 deadline. Space is limited, and early submissions are recommended.
