More than 270 Keller ISD elementary students gathered at Fossil Ridge High School on Saturday, February 21, for the 11th annual Elementary Battle of the Books – a celebration of reading, teamwork, and friendly competition.

Representing all 23 elementary campuses, student teams put their literary knowledge to the test in a fast-paced, quiz-style challenge based on a curated list of books they had been reading throughout the year.

After several exciting rounds, The Blazing Bookworms from Bette Perot Elementary claimed the elementary division title, while Because of the Six from Lone Star Elementary earned a strong second-place finish.

Just a few weeks later, the excitement continued with the 10th annual Intermediate Battle of the Books competition. About 75 students from seven intermediate and middle schools competed in the reading showdown.

Taking the top spot was The Lost Dreamers from Bear Creek Intermediate, followed by Candy Readers from Timberview Middle School in second place.

Both competitions highlighted Keller ISD students’ love of reading while giving them the opportunity to collaborate, think critically, and celebrate great books together.

Battle of the Books is one of Keller ISD’s most exciting literacy traditions, bringing together enthusiastic readers from elementary and intermediate campuses for a spirited competition celebrating books and teamwork. Each year, KISD librarians curate a diverse reading list, challenging students to dive into great stories and expand their knowledge of characters, plots, and themes. Throughout the year, students read from the selected titles and work together to prepare for the spring competition, where teams from across the district face off in fast-paced quiz rounds that test their knowledge of the books. The event not only showcases strong reading comprehension, but also collaboration, dedication, and a shared love of literature.

Congratulations to this year’s elementary and intermediate Battle of the Books champions!
