Main Street to Close for Construction

Starting Monday, Aug. 4, Main Street will close in both directions between Davis Blvd. and Amundson Rd. for reconstruction. Traffic will be detoured via Mid Cities and Amundson Rd. This project is expected to last about 8 months. It includes upgrades to underground utilities and drainage, new reinforced concrete pavement and sidewalks.

Construction was initially scheduled to begin at the end of 2024, but was delayed due to utility coordination between ATMOS and DART. We recognize this will be inconvenient when school resumes on Aug. 13. Please plan an alternate route and allow extra time to ensure a smooth start to the school year. Note, the Cotton Belt Trail will stay open and will be unaffected by this project.

We thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to improve NRH streets! Text MAIN to 888777 for project updates straight to your phone.

Asphalt Overlay Maintenance

Asphalt overlay maintenance continues next week on several residential streets.

  • Monday, Aug. 4 – Ridgeway Ave.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 5 – Cedar Park Ave. and Parkway Dr.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 6 – Wentwood Ct. and Hewitt St.
  • Thursday, Aug. 7 – Hewitt St. and Cortland Dr.

Residents should receive door hangers from the contractor prior to work taking place. To prevent project delays, residents are asked to move their vehicles from the street on the day(s) contractors will be working there. Typically, your driveway will be temporarily inaccessible only while fresh asphalt is being poured and compacted in front of it. Note, this work is dependent on good weather and schedules are subject to change.

Any questions or concerns may be directed to the Public Works Street Division at 817-427-6460. A total of 78 streets will receive asphalt overlays this year to address cracking and uneven surfaces and extend the pavement life. Prior Posts – July 24

Glenview Drive West – OPENING Friday!

All lanes of the newly reconstructed Glenview Drive from Honey Lane to Waycrest Drive at the NRH/Haltom City limits are expected to open this Friday, July 25. This project, which is part of the 2020 Street Bond Program, included extensive underground utility and drainage improvements, along with construction of a reinforced concrete street and new sidewalks. While the street reconstruction is complete, the contractor is still working on punch list items, such as signage. To help keep everyone safe, please slow down and drive with caution when workers are present.

Glenview Drive East – Daily Closures

The contractor anticipates paving the two remaining lanes of Glenview Drive between Boulevard 26 and Flory Street during the week of July 28. Motorists can expect daily full closures of the roadway during paving operations. We anticipate Glenview will reopen to one-way westbound only traffic each evening. This closure is necessary due to the size of the paving equipment and limited space. Additional closures may be required at a later date. Currently, we anticipate the contractor will have Glenview reopen to one lane in each direction by mid-August for the start of school. Barring any unforeseen delays, the roadway is expected to be fully reopened by the end of September.

Asphalt Overlay Maintenance

Asphalt overlay maintenance continues next week on several residential streets. Milling of the existing pavement is expected to occur Monday – Wednesday, July 28 – 30, followed by placement of new asphalt on the following days:

  • Tuesday, July 29 – Ridgewood Dr
  • Wednesday, July 30 – Meadowview Ter
  • Thursday, July 31 – Shadydale Dr and Green Acres Dr
  • Friday, August 1 – Mapleleaf Dr

Up next on the asphalt overlay list are: Cedar Park Ave, Ridgeway Ave, Parkway Dr, Wentwood Ct, Hewitt St and Cortland Dr. Milling on these streets is scheduled to begin next week, with overlays to follow the first week of August. Schedules are dependent on good weather and subject to change.

WORK ZONE SAFETY REMINDERS

With construction on several city streets and the Loop 820 project underway for the foreseeable future, it’s important to keep work zone safety in mind. Work zones present a different and sometimes challenging environment for drivers to navigate. Motorists may encounter uneven pavement, narrow lanes, concrete barriers, slow-moving heavy equipment, and vehicles that make sudden stops. TxDOT’s “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” campaign offers five tips for safely driving through work zones:

  • Slow down. Follow the posted work zone speed limit and proactively adjust your driving to match road conditions.
  • Pay attention. Avoid distractions, keep your mind on the road and put your phone away.
  • Don’t tailgate. Give yourself room to stop in a hurry, should you need to. Rear-end collisions are the most common kind of work zone crashes.
  • Watch out for road crews. Roadside workers want to get home safely too. Always follow instructions and be mindful of construction area road signs.
  • Allow extra time. Road construction can slow things down. Count on it and plan for it.
