This October, the Texas Historical Commission (THC) invites communities across the state to celebrate Texas Archeology Month (TAM). This annual initiative honors Texas’ rich and diverse cultural heritage through archeological exploration, hands-on learning, and public engagement.
Throughout the month, visitors can take part in special events, educational programs, and interactive activities hosted at select THC state historic sites. These experiences are designed to connect Texans with the people and stories that shaped our state’s history, offering a deeper appreciation of the archeological treasures beneath our feet.
Events will take place at the following historic sites:
- Fort Griffin – Albany
- French Legation – Austin
- Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill – La Grange
- Levi Jordan Plantation – Brazoria
- Mission Dolores – San Augustine
- Sam Bell Maxey House – Paris
- San Felipe de Austin – San Felipe
- San Jacinto Battleground – La Porte
- Starr Family Home – Marshall
- Varner-Hogg Plantation – West Columbia
From exploring battlegrounds to learning about Texas’ earliest settlements, TAM provides a unique opportunity to engage with history and preservation efforts across the state.
